Gold‑Rush Grandeur: Inside Nevada City’s Boho‑Chic National Exchange

The National Exchange Hotel is a boutique hotel in the heart of Nevada City’s Gold-Rush district, set within an 1856 brick landmark on Broad Street.

A three-year restoration transformed this “grand old dame” into a boho-chic Victorian hideaway.

Its 38 individually designed rooms feature one-of-a-kind antiques, original art, and wallpapers inspired by William Morris and Sierra botanicals.

Some rooms open onto wrought-iron verandas overlooking downtown, while bathrooms offer penny-tile floors and Beekman bath products.

Common spaces glow with rich colors, patterns, and more than 400 works of art, honoring a storied past when Mark Twain lectured and Lola Montez danced.
